Fair Skinned Foundation Problems

Sunday 19 March 2017

Let's face it, finding the right foundation can be an absolute nightmare sometimes. Specially if like me, you are super fair skinned. If the only way of me getting a certain foundation is by ordering it online with out colour testing, it's a no go. I've spent countless hours wondering around beauty counters to try and find the perfect match. And I still can't find it!

I never knew trying to get a match for my skin was going to be so difficult. Some are too yellow, some too pink and it really shows when you are sporting the lightest shade a company do. I would love to pop into my local beauty store and just pick up something from a highstreet brand, but there's absolutely no chance I'll find a colour match. I've picked up a couple on a whim over the last year and they have all turned out to be horrendously dark even in the lightest colour.

So after realising highstreet prices are just not going to suit my skin, I had to come to terms with the fact it'll always have to be high end products..which comes with the high end price. Brilliant! With that, when I need a new foundation because my current one isn't cutting it, I just can't buy it out right because it's so expensive and I've learnt from previous experience that not every high end foundation is good. Then I'm stuck with a £30+ bottle that I just won't use. Such a pain when that happens.

I now spend my time bouncing from counter to counter to see if they will have a light enough shade. Once I started off at No7, they did their snazzy colour match with their hand held device and I was told straight off that they don't go light enough. They advised me to go to Clarins, I walked over explained to the lady on the counter and again, they didn't do a shade light enough. I went to a further 3 counters that also didn't go light enough. So frustrating.

Something I always have to do when I find a brand light enough, is ask for a tester. I just can't bring myself to commit instantly because we all know store lighting can lie. I always feel bad that they spend time with me and then I just wonder off with a tester, but I would hate to know how much money I have wasted on foundation that isn't right.  So I guess it really is necessary to try before you buy. And I'm still trying!

Anyone else had this problem? If you're fair and have the right foundation, what is it?!

** Since writing this post I've come across a website that helps colour match you online if you are unable to swatch, by using foundations and shades you currently use. www.findation.com

  1. It can be so tricky to find foundation matches I usually have to go for the lightest one which they sell but the drugstores are shocking! I use MAC studio fix and also nars sheer glow and I know they both do quite an array of colours

  2. I totally agree that it's near impossible to find a good high street foundation for pale skin, the lightest shades just aren't light enough! I love the Nars Sheer Glow, they do so many shades!xx

  6. I know the struggle very well. However recently I discovered that a Colourstay by revlon does match my skin, however I still prefer Estee Lauder as they always match the colour of my skin to the foundation perfectly. If you struggle, try to ask there or Lancome just released foundation in many many shades :)
